Wow, I got into Oxford for the MPhil in Egyptology. And on top of that, one of my supervisors is *the* Fayoum Portrait expert. I am on cloud nine!
Now I have to pay for this (boo). Currently searching for jobs to complement my work at ISAW. Admin/personal assistant jobs sound good… except when the people offering them don’t take the time to spell out the word “assisant”: see Part-Time Ass. HI-larious.
Not the soup. My romance-languacized statement re: I got so much done today!
Tons, tons tons of Web design for Bikya Masr (check it out) and another site I’m doing. Still stuck on a few things with the latter, but over all I feel accomplished given that I still haven’t started my actual job yet.
Also filed under ‘progress’: definitely starting to take this blog seriously again. It’s really all thanks to the Wordpress app for the iPhone; so easy to publish stuff, especially with pictures. You (my one, maybe two readers, one of whom is definitely Liz) may have noticed an influx in my writing about purchases (all of which have been shoes so far–what does that say about me?). Yes, it’s all because of the camera. I can pretty much use it only to take photos of things I buy and our cat. :)
Speaking of purchases, you know, one really starts to appreciate the simple things, particularly those hygiene-related, upon return from the Third World. I just got this St. Ives bodywash for $3.39 at Fairway, and it kicks butt, and I’m pretty determined to use it forever and ever. Also Queen Helene’s Mint Julep Facial Scrub. I’ve had their mask for years, but this stuff is damn impressive. Check!
We also ended up with one of Tom’s of Maine’s all natural toothpastes. I agree with Adam’s observation that our teeth feel cleaner afterward, but the taste is bland. Not sure how I feel about that one.
I’m so all over the place tonight–just added a tag called “funnies” to this post so that I would remember to give you this suggestion: go to Overheard in New York and search for posts under the word “tourist”. You will be rewarded with hours of entertainment. That will be all.
…oh, yes, and I’m excited for this weekend. Feels great to have a multifaceted social life again! Saturday = St. Patrick’s Day in Hoboken, party at Shane’s (if I make it out of Hoboken, because I may end up staying with Cheyenne for the rest of my life), meeting up with many cousins/friends/and even Josh (?!) along the way. Let the games begin!
Here’s your early-morning post of the day! I keep waking up all groggy, probably sleeping a bit too much. Getting it all in before work starts!
We (Adam and I) went out for wings with Charlie last night (great place called Rathbone’s on 2nd Avenue), then to this ridiculous half-Dove Parlour, half-vampire? bar called The Auction House (also on 2nd). That could have something to do with the grogginess. Perchance.
So great to see everyone and get back into the swing of things, e.g. the swing of silly Gchat conversations with Irene:
Irene: What are you Webdesigning for?
Me: An escort service so I can pimp you out
Aww Starbuck is so furry and cute. He was upset last night because we closed the closet door for an experimental trial to see if he can live without sleeping in the back of the shelves with my shirts. Answer: no, he can’t. Commence rewarding with treats and cleaning up of paper mess he made out of frustration.
I sense morning posts shall be random comme ça. Sweet potato home fries and goat cheese omelettes for breakfast! Woo!
to blog as often as possible while in NY for the next three months. Rarely is my life so interesting when I’m not in New York (believe it or not). Will pay special attention to things purchased (I missed serious uncontrolled capitalism while in Egypt), food eaten, and silliness afoot.
